What I'm Listening To These Days
This is a blog about music I listen to. I listen to new music mostly on YouTube, but occasionally on GrooveShark. When I listen to music I own on my computer, I use Winamp with the Enhancer 0.17 plug-in, which is set on the "General Improvements" preset. When I'm away from my computer I listen to music on a Cowon S9 personal media player with Grado SR-60 headphones.

Passion Pit
Somehow Passion Pit has finally made its way into my collection, even though it's been on the edge of my radar for a while. Sleepyhead is really good, though the rest of Manners is good too. I like the electro feel, and the bass is "wicked pissa" also.

Surfer Blood
At the beginning of this last indie kick I randomly ran into the band Surfer Blood, and liked a song or two of theirs, but forgot to follow up. I recently stumbled upon them again and started listening to the rest of their songs. Turns out I like pretty much all of them, so I downloaded the album on Amazon.

Los Campesinos
The other day I was looking through a list of artists and songs that the people at amazon mp3 are currently enjoying, and found one song that I really liked called Romance is Boring. It's by Los Campesinos! (the peasants/country folks, for those you you who don't habla espaƱol). So I checked them out on YouTube and here are a couple of their songs that I like.
You! Me! Dancing! - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nj6SO_yKMe8

Indie/Post Rock
I'm kind of trailing into the end of an extended indie kick these days. I also discovered some good post rock (I also discovered what post rock was). Songs that grabbed my attention include:
Grizzly Bear - Two Weeks - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tjecYugTbIQ
The thing that grabbed me about this song was the organ/piano part that goes throughout.
Yeasayer - Odd Blood - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VvsHYRzO8_Q
The lyrics of this song are pretty cool. Ambling Amp is another good song by Yeasayer.
Rogue Wave - Lake Michigan - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4nOa1G-uB2A
Love's Lost Guarantee is another good song by Rogue Wave.
Headlights - TV - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FuLeIjWOwK4
I really like the chorus of this song: "I can't stand to watch the TV. The liars and the killers keep staring at me."
The Helio Sequence - Keep Your Eyes Ahead - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QIicqULYhGw
The drummer for this band is also the drummer for Modest Mouse. His face in this video is hilarious.
El Ten Eleven - My Only Swerving - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UBTUAHGpQqE
This is some of the aforementioned post rock. Its really cool that all the guitar and bass parts are done by one guy with a double neck guitar/bass and some looping equipment. Sorry About Your Irony is another good one by El Ten Eleven. Another big post rock group is Explosions in the Sky.
Phoenix - 1901 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kiQppszlXrg
This is a little more mainstream, but still great. I really like the distortion at the beginning. Phoenix in general is really good. Love Like a Sunset Parts I and II are excellent, especially when listened to together.
Some other bands that I listened to: Faded Paper Figures, Band of Horses, Delorean.
That's it for now.

Premise
So I've been doing a lot of music listening now that I'm not in school, and I figure that it'd be interesting to keep a journal of what sort of things I've been listening to, so that maybe one day I look back at the old posts and get reminded of some stuff I forgot I was listening to. This happens inadvertently every couple weeks when I realize that I used to listen to Song X or Band Y a ton, but haven't for at least a month or two. So maybe this will be a way to make that into a systematic experience. These posts aren't really being written for anyone, so if someone is reading this, be aware of that fact, but hey, maybe you'll hear something you like.
